BRIDGES
Building Responsibility, Independence, Determination, and Goals in Education for Success (BRIDGES) at Central High School is for EL students, in grades 9 – 12, who have limited or no formal education, who are long-term ELs, and/or who are newcomers with limited literacy in their first language. Due to interruptions in formal schooling, students’ content knowledge and age do not correlate and indicate that there are academic gaps. The BRIDGES program provides meaningful and age-appropriate learning experiences so students can close the literacy and numeracy gaps in their first language and in English. Students receive specialized sheltered instruction in order to maximize their growth in English acquisition, content area knowledge, and familiarity with US culture.
